The Indian cricket team will host South Africa in a five-match T20I series soon after the conclusion of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The five T20Is will be played across various venues in June. After the series, Rohit Sharma and company will travel to England for the pending fifth Test of the previous Test series and six white-ball matches.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the venues were decided during the Apex Council meeting of the BCCI on Wednesday (March 2).
"This is part of the FTP and there were always to be played after the IPL," Cricbuzz quoted a BCCI official as saying.
The report further suggests that the games will be held from June 9 to June 19 across 5 venues – Cuttack, Vizag, Delhi, Rajkot, and Chennai.
Two T20Is against South Africa were supposed to be in Bengaluru and Nagpur but the BCCI decided to allot the matches to Cuttack and Vizag, which missed out on hosting matches in the recently held series against West Indies due to pandemic reasons.
Another factor that was taken into account for deciding the venues was the weather. It is likely to be warm in Delhi, Rajkot, and Chennai while there might be slight rain in Cuttack (first T20I) and Vizag (second T20I).
