After being dropped from the Team India Test squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha recalled the assurance provided by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

Saha revealed that Ganguly had given him confidence about his place in the Indian Test squad after his knock against New Zealand at Kanpur.

In an interview with The Sunday Express, Saha said, "After scoring 61 against New Zealand at Kanpur, Dadi (Ganguly) congratulated me over WhatsApp and mentioned, ‘As long as I’m here (helming the BCCI), you would be in the team’.

"Such a message from the BCCI president really boosted my confidence. What I’m struggling to understand is how things have changed so fast."

Now, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary Snehasish Ganguly has said that Saha shouldn't have made his conversation with Ganguly public. Snehasish, BCCI president Sourav's elder brother, added that the wicketkeeper-batter should have played Ranji Trophy instead of opting out.

“This is my personal opinion, but what was communicated to him (Saha) by the chief selector/BCCI was private. He probably shouldn’t have gone public with that. Also, he could have played the Ranji Trophy. He cited personal reasons for pulling out and we have to respect that. The door is always open for him, whenever he wants to join the squad,” Snehasish told reporters.

The 37-year-old did not find his name in the team announced for an upcoming two-Test home series against Sri Lanka, along with Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
