"Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in," Shastri urges Ganguly to intervene in support of Saha

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri came out in support of Wriddhiman Saha after he was threatened by an unnamed journalist for ignoring his calls and messages regarding an interview. He feels that it’s time for BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to step in and find out who is involved in this saga. 

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha on Saturday (19th February) was threatened by the journalist when he failed to respond for an interview. The incident happened after a series of events took place with the right-hander. 

It was first learned that the wicketkeeper-batter was categorically told by the team management that he will not be picked for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The reports emerged out to be true as he was axed from the Indian squad. The chief selector Chetan Sharma cited that it was an internal matter of the selection committee and the team management, and refused to cite further details behind his omission from the squad.

As Saha was dropped from the squad for Sri Lanka Tests, an unnamed journalist wanted to interview him over the BCCI’s decision to not consider him in future. But when he didn’t respond, the journo threatened him. 

Saha then took to the official Twitter account and shared the screenshots of the chat with the journalist. After the incident, many fans, Ex-cricketers and pundits came out in support of Wriddhiman Saha and the latest to join the bandwagon is former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri. 

Taking to the official Twitter account, Ravi Shastri said that it was shocking to see that ‘ultimate team man’ Wriddhiman Saha being threatened by a journalist. He remarked that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly should intervene in the matter and find out who is behind all the fuss. 

“Shocking a player being threatened by a journo. Blatant position abuse. Something that’s happening too frequently with #TeamIndia. Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in. Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer. This is serious coming from ultimate team man WS," Ravi Shastri said. 

Notably, Wriddhiman Saha also opened up on the conversation with Rahul Dravid. He revealed that the Indian head coach has indicated to him that he won’t be considered going forward as team will look to groom a younger wicket-keeper.
