Batting great Sachin Tendulkar recalled an incident from 1994 where he convinced his wife Anjali to talk to his parents about their engagement. 

Sachin Tendulkar is rated highly among the best batters to have played the game of cricket. Many cricketers idolise him and he has shown the way to various players on how to approach their game. 

In his illustrious career spanning 24 years, the prolific Indian batter scored 34,357 across the formats to go with 100 centuries. The Mumbaikar clinched almost every major batting record to his name, some of which are still unbroken.

Tendulkar’s love life has been a story in itself. The Indian legend met his wife Anjali at an airport while returning from an international tour in 1990. The couple then started dating and after 5 years in 1995, they tied the knot with each other. 

The couple has been happily married for 27 years and have two children in Arjun Tendulkar, who is also a cricketer, and Sara Tendulkar. 

Speaking in a video posted on Graham Bensinger’s YouTube channel, Sachin Tendulkar revealed that during the 1994 tour to New Zealand, her wife Anjali caught his good mood and told him that they should be engaged, to which he agreed. 

"In 1994, when we were in New Zealand. After that Auckland innings, I had another decent inning in Wellington. I was in a good mood. She caught me at the right time, actually, and she said, 'I think we should get engaged. What do you say?' I said, 'Yes, I'm ready,” Sachin Tendulkar said. 

Tendulkar recalled that his wife told him to speak to his parents but he didn’t agree and instead told her to speak to both the families and insisted she should take the charge.

“She said, 'But for that, you need to speak to your family and I'll speak to my family. I'm sorry,' I said. 'You'll have to speak to both the families, both sides. You are taking charge. I will not go back home and I'll speak to my parents, no chance,” he said.

Sachin Tendulkar further said that even though his parents knew Anjali but he felt odd in talking about her. He recalled that he told her that if she manages to talk to both the families then he’s fine with it and will get engaged. He further revealed that it was his wife who spoke to both the families. 

"It was feeling odd. Though they knew Anjali, she had come home and all. But I was feeling odd. I said 'if you manage to do both, then I am okay. If you say tomorrow, I will get engaged tomorrow. So she was the one who spoke to both families," he said.
