Sarfaraz Khan and Ajinkya Rahane helped Mumbai pile up runs against Saurashtra in their ongoing encounter of the Ranji Trophy 2022. While Rahane slammed 129, Sarfaraz continued on to make a double century and just fell short of a triple hundred.
After opting to bat first, Mumbai found themselves in trouble as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the third over. Aakarshit Gomel and Sachin Yadav fell within the first hour as well and Mumbai was reeling at 44/3.
Ajinkya Rahane, who has returned to domestic cricket to find some form, then teamed up with Sarfaraz Khan and the pair began to rebuild the Mumbai innings. Mumbai ended day one on 263/3 with Rahane on 108 and Sarfaraz on 121*.
On day 2, Rahane fell for 129 runs (17 fours and 2 sixes) to Chirag Jani after adding 252 runs with Sarfaraz. The youngster was composed and he carried on in the company of other partners. Aditya Tare played a cameo while Shams Mulani also chipped in with 12 as Sarfaraz inched closer to his double hundred.
He reached the double century in 343 balls and finally fell for 275 runs in 401 balls with 30 fours and 7 sixes to his name, with Mumbai’s score reading 515 runs.
Since the Ranji Trophy 2019, has scored 1195 runs in 9 innings with 4 scores of 100 plus, 3 double hundreds, and one triple century and averages 199.16.
As per the latest update from BCCI, Mumbai had declared their first innings at 544/7 in 157 overs.
