India’s U-19 World Cup winning squad on Wednesday (February 9) was felicitated by the BCCI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The felicitation ceremony took place on the sidelines of the second ODI between India and West Indies at the same venue.
The Boys in Blue, donning blazers, were also spotted watching the second ODI from the stands in presence of head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and other support staff members.
The triumphant squad could not get to meet the senior Indian players as they were part of the bio-bubble created for the three-ODI series.
Batting legend and NCA head VVS Laxman, who was with the victorious India U-19 team in the Caribbean, was also present on occasion in addition to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Arun Dhumal and a few other officials of the state cricket bodies.
Soon after India had defeated England to lift the U-19 World Cup last Saturday (February 5), the BCCI had announced cash reward of INR 40 lakh for the players and INR 25 lakh each for the support staff.
During their triumphant campaign, the Boys in Blue didn’t lose a single match, winning group encounters against South Africa, Ireland, and Uganda and then the knockout games against Bangladesh, Australia, and England to lift a record-extending fifth U-19 World Cup title.
