U19 CWC 2022: Nishant Sindhu recovers from COVID-19; entire India squad fit for semifinal- Report

India’s U19 cricketer Nishant Sindhu has reportedly recovered from COVID-19 and will be available for selection for the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2022 against Australia to be played on Wednesday (February 2) in Antigua.

Sindhu had tested positive for COVID-19 after the final league match against Uganda in the ongoing tournament.

India has been brilliant so far in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 and is unbeaten despite facing numerous challenges due to COVID-19.

The Indian U19 team defeated Bangladesh by five wickets in their quarter-final fixture, while Australia crushed Pakistan in their quarter-final match. They will face each other in the second semi-final at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Wednesday.

It is being said that India now has a fully fit squad for the second semi-final after getting affected by COVID-19 cases during the tournament. That means all squad members are available for selection now.

Notably, Sindhu had led India in two league games in the absence of Yash Dhull after he had tested positive for COVID-19 along with four other team members.

An International Cricket Council (ICC) source told PTI: “All are available for selection for the Australia game. Sindhu has tested negative.”

India had beaten Australia in the warm-up game ahead of the ICC U19 World Cup 2022.
