Brett Lee honoured to receive personalized letter from PM Narendra Modi on India’s 73rd Republic Day

The former Australia pacer enjoys a massive fan following in India.

Brett Lee | GettyFormer Australia pacer Brett Lee on Saturday (January 29) thanked India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his greetings on India's 73rd Republic Day.

In his letter, the honourable Prime Minister acknowledged Lee’s affection towards India and hoped that the ex-Australian cricketer will ‘continue to work closely’ with the nation.

“I would like to convey Republic day greetings to you. 26 January this year is even more special because it is happening at a time when India marks 75 years since freedom from colonial rule. Thus I decided to write to you and a few other friends of India with a sense of gratitude for your affection towards India and a hope that you continue to work closely with our nation as well as our people,” wrote PM Modi.

Brett Lee was overwhelmed by the kind words from India's PM. He took to Twitter to share a picture of the personalized letter and reiterated his love for India.

“Such an honour to receive this letter. Thank you @narendramodi. It’s no secret how much I love India & its people & feel grateful that I’ve been able to spend so many years enjoying this beautiful country. I’m a few days late, but Happy Republic Day, India,” Lee tweeted.

Apart from Brett Lee, ex-South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes, West Indies star Chris Gayle and former England skipper Kevin Pietersen have also received the letter from PM Modi on India's Republic Day.
