Shafali Verma | GettyAustralia skipper Meg Lanning and all-rounder Tahlia McGrath have made significant gains in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings after scripting their team’s 1-0 victory over England in the three-match home series.

The second and third T20I couldn’t take place due to rain while Australia defeated England by 9 wickets in the opening game at the Adelaide Oval.

The pair of Lanning and McGrath was involved in a 144-run unbroken stand for the second wicket in the first T20I. Lanning's 44-ball 64 helped her surpass India's Smriti Mandhana to third place and McGrath's Player of the Match effort of 91 off 49 saw her advancing 29 places to 28th position.

Mandhana's opening partner Shafali Verma though is back on top of the rankings, overtaking Australia's Beth Mooney, who didn’t feature in the T20I series due to injury. Verma, who attained number one position for the first time during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020, is now two rating points ahead of Mooney at 726.

In the latest weekly update that includes performances in the just concluded five-team ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has moved up six places to eighth after amassing 221 runs in the tournament. Bangladesh's Murshida Khatun is up 35 spots to 48th after aggregating 126 runs.

England openers Danni Wyatt (70) and Tammy Beaumont (30), who were associated in an 82-run stand in the first match, have also advanced in the rankings. Wyatt is up three places to 13th and Beaumont up two places to 16th with captain Heather Knight also joining them in the top 20.

Athapaththu, who earned the Player of the Series award in the Kuala Lumpur tournament that also featured Bangladesh, Scotland, Kenya, and hosts Malaysia, has gained four places to 52nd among bowlers. Athapaththu is also up one place to seventh among all-rounders in the list headed by New Zealand's Sophie Devine.
