Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag will captain the Indian Maharaja team in the upcoming inaugural edition of Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2022 T20 tournament which is scheduled to kick start on 20th January 2022 in Muscat, Oman.

The tournament will be played between three teams, namely Indian Maharaja, Asia Lions, and World Giants. 

Indian Maharaja will be led by Virender Sehwag with Mohammad Kaif as his deputy, as announced on Tuesday (18th January). The team will see retired players from India only and will be coached by Australia's World Cup-winning coach John Buchanan.

Asia Lions, which will consist of retired players from other subcontinent sides will be captained by Misbah Ul Haq. Tillakaratne Dilshan will be the vice-captain while Arjuna Ranatunga has been handed the coaching responsibility. 

World Giants, which will include retired players from the rest of the world, will be led by West Indies' two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper Daren Sammy. Jonty Rhodes will play the role of player-cum-mentor.

LLC T20 Tournament Commissioner Ravi Shastri said that he can wait to closely work with the tournament. He added that even though players are retired but they are passionate about cricket and will show their skills in the coming days. 

“I can’t wait to work closely with LLC T20 tournament. It’s loved to see all the superstars come together and fight for the inaugural title of the league. “These players are retired but they are still very passionate about cricket. I am sure they will show their extra skills for their teams in the next 10 days,” Ravi Shastri said. 

CEO of LLC T20 league Raman Raheja said that he’s excited to see everyone giving their best to win the trophy for their team. He added that this league will be a thrilling experience for all fans in Oman and across the globe. 

“I am excited to see how everyone is involved together and use their hundred percent to win the trophy for their team. It’s going to be a super thrilling experience for all cricket fans in Oman and all across the globe,” Raman Raheja said.
