England’s head coach Chris Silverwood that despite England’s horrendous campaign in Ashes 2021-22, he would love to carry on with his job. Nothing went right for England during their campaign in Australia. The Joe Root-led suffered four big defeats in the five-match Test series.

Although they displayed decent performance with the ball, their batting let them down in almost every match of the series as Australian bowlers were all over them and never allowed them to cross the 300-run mark even once in the series.

England’s horrendous campaign in Australia made many fans and pundits criticize head coach Chris Silverwood and skipper Joe Root for applying poor tactics in the series. Many even stated that the former should be relieved of his coaching duties and the latter should be replaced as captain.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Chris Silverwood expressed his desire to continue coaching the English Test side. He said that he wants to carry on his job but there are decisions to be made by ECB.

He admitted that his job is under scrutiny and when they’ll go back home there will be a review of his work.

"I accept the job I'm it comes with that level of criticism and the uncertainty as well. Until I'm told differently I'll start planning for the West Indies. I want to carry on but there are decisions above that will be made. My job is going to be under scrutiny. There will be a review when we get home and part and parcel of that will be my job,” Chris Silverwood said.

Silverwood suggested changes in English county structures, saying that he would love to help affect those changes. He called himself a good coach and remarked that he would love to be given the opportunity of changing the structure.

"I think given some changes that I think we need within the county structures, I would love to help affect those changes, and I would like to put some of this right. I think I can do that. I think I'm a good coach and I would love to be given that opportunity but it's out of my hands at the moment," he said.

Silverwood said that he’s not ‘finished article as a coach’ as he wants to get better all the time.

"We've reflected about the players, but there will be certain aspects I've got to reflect on, because I'm not a finished article as a coach and I want to get better all the time," he said.

When asked about whether the players are happy with the communication levels within the team, Chris Silverwood said that he’s not scared of ‘showing his teeth’ in tough situations. He revealed that he tries to work things with the player rather than shouting or growling at them.

"I'm not scared of showing my teeth. Especially with the situation we've been living in, I try to work through things with them, rather than shout at them or growl at them. I have growled at them a couple of times on this trip.

“I'm not afraid to show my teeth, but you sometimes wonder in hindsight whether I should do it more. But then does it make it less effective,” he said.
