Ireland on Sunday (January 16) defeated West Indies by two wickets in the series-deciding third ODI in Jamaica to clinch the series 2-1.

Opting to bowl first, Ireland bundled out the hosts for 212 in 44.4 overs. Andy McBrine starred with the ball for the visitors, claiming four wickets by conceding only 28 runs in his 10 overs. Craig Young also returned with impressive figures of 3 for 43 in his 7.4 overs.

It was a listless batting display from the West Indies as Shai Hope top scored with 39-ball 53. Jason Holder also chipped in with a handy contribution of 44 but other batters failed to reach the 30-run mark.

In reply, Ireland overhauled the target with 31 balls to spare. Andy McBrine showed off his all-round skills by hitting a top score of 59 during the chase. His 100-ball knock was studded with six boundaries and a six.

Harry Tector (52) and skipper Paul Stirling (44) also played their part in what was Ireland's first away ODI series triumph against a fellow Test nation.

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard described the defeat as "a sad day" for his struggling team.

"It's a sad day for us and West Indies cricket," admitted Pollard. "We take responsibility and me too for the performance on the field. It's a bitter pill to swallow."

He added: "We just haven't been up to standard. Now we need a holistic approach to go forward, not just on the field. It won't happen tonight. We have to get together and decide where we want to take West Indies cricket."

For his stunning display, Andy McBrine earned the Player-of-the-Match award. He was also adjudged Player-of-the-Series for his 128 runs and 10 wickets in three ODIs.

"It means a lot as the last three, four weeks have not been easy," said McBrine. "But we have show great spirit."
