Pat Cummins has kickstarted his captaincy tenure as Australia’s Test captain with a blockbuster Ashes 2021-22 series win over England at home, and the skipper said that it was just the beginning of things for the team.

Australia might have secured the Ashes with a margin of 4-0 by thrashing England in the five-match Test series, but Cummins said that the Aussies need to test themselves in all conditions and against all countries to be a successful team.

The Australian Test team did not tour in 2021 due to COVID-19, but despite this, they were building well and won the Ashes series against England, but they needed to be successful overseas.

Cummins stated: “These were quite foreign conditions to what we normally expect in Australia. It was a green seaming wicket but I think the way Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, and Cam Green took on the game was a really good template for any conditions that are foreign to what we might expect.”

The pacer added, “We can be the type of team that is brave enough to take that positivity overseas if we need to. I think that puts us in a great place.”

Meanwhile, Australia is scheduled to travel to Pakistan in March-April 2022 to play a three-match Test as well as three ODIs and a T20 clash, and Cummins has already made his goals clear ahead of the tour.

The skipper further said, “We've played really well here in Australia -- it's up to us to take that overseas. I think to be the best side in the world you need to win at home, but more importantly, you have to be successful overseas.”

Cummins signed off by saying, “That's a challenge for this side because we haven't played a lot overseas the last couple of years. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India this year -- it's all really foreign conditions to Australia, so that's going to be our challenge.”
