Virat Kohli on Saturday (January 15) left everyone stunned with his decision to India’s Test captaincy. He stepped down from the position after leading the side for seven years.
Taking to Twitter, Kohli made the big announcement, a day after India’s 2-1 Test series loss to South Africa.
"It's been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction. I've done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Every thing has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it's now," Kohli said in a statement.
After the news, Virat’s sister Bhawna Kohli Dhingra took to Instagram and lauded her brother’s bold decision.
“The kind of passion , honesty and dedication you have for this game we have seen since childhood. You stand tall in all your milestones and have proven your metal from time to time. You have shown the strength of your character by taking this decision too. Always a proud family .....,” she wrote, before adding hashtags like #champforever #successfulcaptain #dedication #strength #detremination.
Kohli’s brother Vikas Kohli also made a post on Instagram to hail his younger sibling.
“Now and always #champion #belief #determination #honesty,” Vikas wrote in an Instagram post also featuring Kohli’s picture from the inaugural WTC final last year.
Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, Team India tasted huge success in the last seven years. He led the country in 68 Tests, registering 40 wins, including the series victories in Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
After the World T20 World Cup 2021 in November, Kohli had stepped down as T20I captain while he was sacked as ODI skipper ahead of the ongoing South Africa tour.
