Veteran pacer James Anderson said that English cricket doesn’t need a deep look into despite poor show in ongoing Ashes 2021-22, as players have enough talent to bounce back. England’s horrendous campaign in Australia has done nothing good to them as they have been at the receiving end of heavy criticism.
The Joe Root-led first suffered a 9-wicket thumping in Gabba and then was decimated in a 275-run thrashing in the day-night Test in Adelaide. If this was not enough, they then were pounded by embarrassing innings and 14 runs defeat to go 0-3 down in the series and lose the Ashes 2021-22, with two matches to go.

Following England’s poor show in the Ashes 2021-22, calls regarding the change in the English cricket system has risen drastically as many fans and pundits are of the opinion that the Joe Root-led side doesn’t take Test cricket seriously and they should give first priority to the longest format of the game.
Speaking to Fox Cricket, James Anderson said that his experience from Ashes defeats over the years says that there’s no need to look deep into the system and change the wheel. He admitted that they need lots of improvement as a side but at the same time have to be realistic.
He added that they have talented young players in their side, who are in the learning phase, and they will do their best to keep improving every day.
"I think the biggest thing I've learnt, especially from Ashes defeats over the years, is maybe you don't need to look too deep into it and start changing the wheel. We've got a lot of improving to do as a side, but I think we've got to be realistic as well.
“We've got some talent in this team, we've got a lot of young players in the team who are still learning their trade, so we've got to try our best to keep improving everyday,” James Anderson said.

James Anderson said that it’s very difficult to turn things around in Australia, especially when the team is 1-0 or 2-0 down in the series. He added that gaining momentum will be their challenge for the next couple of weeks.
"Winning is a habit, that's the reason when teams come here and get behind the eight-ball, when teams go 1-0, 2-0 down, it's very difficult to turn that round because you see Australia, when they get a foot on the throat, they never take it off, or it's difficult to wrestle that momentum back and that's our challenge this next couple of weeks,” he said.
Notably, England lost nine out of their 14 Tests in 2021. They are currently playing the fourth Test of Ashes 2021-22 at SCG and would be hoping to turn their fortunes around in 2022.
