Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley hinted about having different coaches for different formats for the national team. Justin Langer’s tenure as an Australian head coach is coming to an end in June 2022.

But it is learned that the 51-year-old has expressed his desire to extend his contract. Although Langer earlier hinted about seeking a possible extension of his contract as the Australia team head coach, reports are suggesting that there have been discussions about splitting the coaching duties in Australian cricket.

If the reports are to be believed, Justin Langer may coach the team in red-ball format and one among Michael Di Venuto and Andrew McDonald might get the reins of the white-ball team.

Reacting to the reports regarding splitting the coaching duties, Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley said that they’ll look towards having two different coaches at the end of the season.

"That's (different coaches for different formats) something we'll look at towards the end of the season," Nick Hockley told Sydney Morning Herald.

Nick Hockley confirmed that Justin Langer will coach Australia till his contract ends. He revealed that after Ashes 2021-22, they will sit down and work out what they want next.

"There's no question Justin will see out his contract. That goes out to the middle of next year. Obviously, once we get through the Ashes we want to sit down and work out where we want to go from there. We're going to sit down and work through what that process entails at that time, then we'll be able to say more," he said.

Notably, under Justin Langer Australia retained the Ashes 2019 in England and then later won the T20 World Cup 2021. They are also likely to win the Ashes 2021-22.
