WATCH: ‘Kohli was rattled; wanted to get something off his chest’, Manjrekar on ODI captaincy controversy

Virat Kohli had revealed that there was no communication from BCCI before removing him as ODI captain.

Addressing the media, the Indian Test captain said he was never asked "not to quit T20 captaincy", contrary to what BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had told several media outlets after Kohli’s removal as ODI captain earlier this month.

Virat also spoke about the lack of communication from the board before sacking him from the 50-over captaincy.

Sharing his two cents on the same, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar said the whole episode should have been handled more professionally.

"Three different captains for three formats is not an ideal scenario but if you are left with no choice and that's gonna get the best out of the three teams, then so be it. The one very important member of the Indian cricket administration is a guy who doesn't quite get the attention that he deserves. And that's the chairman of selectors," Manjrekar told Times Now.

"So I don't know why there should have been a conversation publicly or any statement given by the president of the BCCI when really it is the job of the chairman of the selection committee," he added.

According to Manjrekar, Kohli was rattled by the news and he wanted to get something off his chest when he addressed the press conference ahead of the South Africa tour.

Earlier this week, former India batter Dilip Vengsarkar said that Ganguly had no business to speak on behalf of the selection committee after Kohli was replaced by Rohit Sharma as ODI captain.

Manjrekar echoed the same and said: "Miscommunications and all the misunderstandings, everything has been happening over the years. It should have been the chairman of the selection committee versus Virat Kohli. That would have been the right way to go about it. That would have been a more professional exterior.”
