Justin Langer has hinted about seeking a possible extension of his contract as the Australia team head coach, which comes to an end in June 2022.
Justin Langer was appointed as the head coach after the ball-tampering scandal-hit Australian cricket. Things didn’t go his way initially but the 51-year-old regrouped the team together and pushed them to play fearless cricket and helped six-time World Champions reach new heights.
Under his tenure, Australia retained the Ashes 2019 in England but his role as a head coach came under the scanner when the Indian team thumped them at home to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.

He, however, replied to all the critics after Aaron Finch-led Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021. Australia is currently playing Ashes 2021-22 and Langer would be the happiest man as the hosts have dominated England in the first two Tests and are likely that they will yet again retain the Trophy.
Talking about his coaching, Just Langer said that he loves his job and has been consistent with what he said, and never thought differently. He lauded Australian players, saying that it’s a great team to be involved in.
"I have never thought differently, to be honest. I have been consistent with what I have said for the last four years. I love my job. The boys are playing well, no doubt about it, it's a great team to be involved in. So, nothing has changed from my point of view,” Justin Langer was quoted as saying by 'Sydney Morning Herald'.
Justin Langer’s tenure as an Australian head coach is coming to an end in June 2022. But as per reports, the 51-year-old has confirmed that he wants to extend his contract and continue coaching the team in all formats of the game.

The reports also suggested that there have been discussions about spitting the coaching duties in Australian cricket and if that happens Justin Langer may coach the team in red-ball format and his senior assistant coach Andrew McDonald might get the reins of the white-ball team.
"Langer confirmed he wanted to remain in charge of the Test squad and the limited-overs teams in the long term, for there has been a debate that the senior coach for the red-and-white-ball teams should be split.
"Langer’s senior assistant Andrew McDonald would be the ideal white-ball coach if Langer remained and the roles were split. McDonald, who listens closely to players and has an excellent rapport, is seen as a fine leader and also capable of guiding all three teams,” the report stated.
