Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan has etched his name into the history books, as he became the first batter ever to score 2000 T20 runs in a single calendar year.

The right-hander achieved the feat during the third and final T20I against West Indies in Karachi on Thursday (December 26), which was Pakistan’s last T20I game this year.

Rizwan, who had played an important role in helping Pakistan reach the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2021, carried over his form into the three-match T20I series against the West Indies at home.

The 29-year-old scored 78 in the first T20I, 38 in the second T20I, and 86 in the third T20I to breach the 2000-run milestone and become the first-ever batter to do so in a single calendar year in the T20 format.

He crossed the 2000-run landmark in the 11th over of Pakistan's batting innings in Karachi on Thursday, while more than 1200 runs have come in 26 T20I innings for the Men in Green.

Notably, Pakistan defeated West Indies by 7 wickets on Thursday in the final T20I to complete a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series. They were also scheduled to play three ODIs, but the series was postponed to June 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Pakistan, Rizwan was the highest run-getter with 203 runs while West Indies' Brandon King scored the highest 111 runs for the West Indies in the recent T20I series. Pakistan’s Mohammad Wasim Jr finished the T20I series with 8 wickets against the West Indies.
