England all-rounder Ben Stokes said that he can manage his knee injury during the ongoing Ashes 2021-22. After taking an indefinite break from cricket, Ben Stokes made a return to international cricket in the recently concluded first Test of Ashes 2021-22.
However, he almost broke his fans' heart after he was seen struggling to bowl and it was later learned that the all-rounder flared up his old knee injury.
Stokes’ return to international cricket wasn’t impressive as he scored only 19 runs and bowled 12 wicketless overs and also bowled a host of no-balls in the first Test of ongoing Ashes 2021-22.
Writing in his column for The Mirror, Ben Stokes admitted that it wasn't a great outing for him in the first Test of Ashes 2021-22.
"Having a long break is going to show itself, but there are no excuses. I didn't do anything whatsoever except take a catch and bowl a few no-balls so the one positive is I probably can't get much worse,” Ben Stokes said.
While talking about his knee injury, Stokes said that his old injury flared up but he’ll manage. He admitted that it makes him uncomfortable and he’ll try to get off it as soon as he can.
"People will have seen me rubbing my knee from time to time when I was in the field, but rest assured I'm fine. It's an old injury that flares up every now and again, but I know how to manage it.
“It just gets a little bit uncomfortable ... in and around my cartilage, but it just looks worse than it is by the way I try and get off it as soon as I can,” he said.
England suffered a thumping 9-wicket loss against Australia in the first Test of Ashes 2021-22. It remains to be seen if the visitors can come back in the next match in Adelaide on 16th December, which will also be the pink-ball Test.
