The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally formed a committee for the differently-abled cricketers of the country to enable them to play under the aegis of the BCCI.
In April 2021, the BCCI Apex Council had decided to recognize the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) as the only body to promote cricket among physically challenged, deaf, blind, and wheelchair participants in the country.
Well, the latest move by the BCCI will certainly give a big boost to the DCCI and its players going forward.
Following the historic decision, the DCCI thanked the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah for recognizing the disability cricketers and taking them under their wings.
The DCCI tweeted: “We, the DCCI, are grateful to @JayShah @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS and to all the esteemed state and affiliated units of the BCCI for forming the Differently Abled cricket committee. It's the first time the @BCCI has recognized disability cricketers and taken us in their wings.”
It added, “It's a historic decision and on behalf of all the disability cricket community. We would like to thank everyone at @BCCI especially @JayShah ji for making this dream come true. we are confident the disability cricketers too will bring laurels for the country.”
Meanwhile, a BCCI official told PTI on Monday: “Yes, we have formally formed a committee that will look after cricket for the physically challenged. It's now a sub-committee of BCCI. So the Indian disability team will now play under the aegis of BCCI.”
