Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley on Thursday (December 8) announced that the fifth and final Test of the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 will be a day/night, pink-ball affair between Australia and England and will be played from January 14-18.
Earlier this week, Cricket Australia (CA) had announced that the fifth Ashes Test will be moved out of Perth due to COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions in Western Australia, with the new venue to be announced shortly.
Hockley told SEN Test Cricket: “We've had lots of interest; I won't go into specifics because we're going through all the details now but as I said, we're working to come to a position as quickly as possible. Hopefully, there will be an announcement in the not-too-distant future.”
He added, “We've tried to be fair to everyone, we've given everyone an opportunity, we'll be taking in a range of considerations, and ultimately it's my job to put a recommendation to the board. The plan is, wherever it's played, to be a day-night Test with a pink ball.”
Notably, the first Ashes Test is being played at The Gabba, Brisbane between Australia and England from December 8.
Australia had a great start of the opening Test, as the hosts bowled out England for 147 and now took a lead of 197 runs at stump on day two in the ongoing first Test in Brisbane.
David Warner scored a brilliant knock of 94 runs off 176 balls while Travis Head made an unbeaten at 112 off 95 balls with Australia having three wickets in hands. For England, Ollie Robinson scalped three wickets.
