Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the opening Test match of the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting on Friday, November 26, in Chattogram.

On Thursday, November 25, Bangladesh's chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, revealed that Hasan is still recovering from a hamstring injury and is yet to regain match fitness, resulting in he wouldn't be available for the first Test against Pakistan on Friday in Chattogram.

The chief selector also said that the hosts are also not sure of the ace all-rounder’s availability for the second Test to be played in Dhaka from December 4-8.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Abedin stated: “Shakib's hamstring injury hasn't improved. Shakib needs further rehabilitation. Our physiotherapist is constantly taking care of him.”

He signed off by saying, “We understood that he wouldn't be available for the first Test. We are also not sure of his availability for the second Test. The physio will let us know soon. We haven't called up a replacement since we picked the 16-man squad knowing Shakib's condition.”

Notably, Tamim Iqbal was also ruled out of the Test series with a second fracture on his left thumb that he sustained during an Everest Premier League match in October 2021.

Bangladesh squad for the first Test:

Mominul Haque (capt), Shadman Islam, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Nurul Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Ebadat Hossain, Abu Jayed, Yasir Ali, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rejaur Rahman Raja.
