West Indies debutant Jeremy Solozano has been cleared of structural damage to his head after getting hit on the helmet while fielding at short-leg on the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.

Head scans of Solozano, who was taken to hospital after being hit on the helmet, showed "no structural damage", the official handle of the Caribbean side said on Sunday.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne pulled a short delivery from Roston Chase into the grill of the Windies batter's helmet.

Solozano immediately removed his helmet and lay down, surrounded by worried team mates and both the Sri Lankan batters at the Galle International Stadium as the team's physio sprinted on to the field.

Shai Hope took the field as substitute, though West Indies have not taken a decision on using the concussion substitute option if Solozano is not in a position to take his place on the field for the remainder of the Test.

Sri Lanka built a strong position for themselves to finish at 267/3 with captain Karunaratne scoring 132*, his 13th hundred in Test cricket.
