Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has expressed his wish to be part of an Australian team that can win a Test series in India and feels he can play a massive role in the team’s success.

Earlier this year, a second-string India cricket team breached Australia’s fortress Gabba in 32 years and won a four-match Test series 2-1 series. Australia was scheduled to tour India in October 2021, but it was postponed to next September after T20 World Cup 2021 took the slot.

As reported by Sydney Morning Herald, Lyon said: “One of the big goals is I'd really like to be part of an Australian team that can win a Test series in India. I think I can play a massive role in that as well. That's definitely one of my big goals. I think that's one of the big goals team-wise. That is a big focus.”

The spinner is just one wicket away from 400 Test scalps and is currently gearing for the Ashes 2021-22 against England at home starting on December 8 in Brisbane.

He also opened up on Australia’s series loss to India earlier this year. The experienced spinner noted, “I don't think we did the basics well enough for long enough -- that's purely what it comes down to. We didn't take our chances when we created the chances in the field.”

Lyon signed off by saying, “In Test cricket, I've played enough of it to realize if you do the basics for a long period of time and challenge people's defence you'll create chances here and there. That's one big area we can get better.”
