Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja hopes to become the first cricket board in Asia to launch a full-fledged franchise-based T20 league for women by starting a Women's Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament in near future.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a professional franchise-based T20 league for men where six teams from six cities in the country compete in the tournament.
Notably, Cricket Australia organizes a Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) hosts the Women's Hundred, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been organizing the Women's T20 Challenge alongside the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Raja said in a video posted by the PCB: “Women's PSL is also on my mind. Hopefully, we can become the first cricket board in Asia to launch it (a women's T20 franchise league).”
The PCB chief also hopes to launch an Under-19 PSL as well next year.
He signed off by saying, “In October, hopefully, we will launch something like a PSL for the Under-19 level. We are very excited because this has not happened anywhere in the world. England will send their Under-19 players, we will look after them. We will create a new property.”
