Former India captain Rahul Dravid is going to take over India's senior men's team head coach role from predecessor Ravi Shastri. His coaching stint begins with India's bilateral series at home against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup 2021 this month.

Ex-cricketer Virender Sehwag is expecting stability in Team India once his former teammate Dravid takes the charge. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that the players, who were dropped after a few bad performances, will get a lot of backing under Dravid.

“His presence will bring stability, which we talk about all the time. The players will have the confidence that ‘I’ll get some more chances before getting dropped’. Because he has played at this level, and he always believes that a player should be given enough opportunities before getting dropped,” he said.

Sehwag further added, “We have been discussing for some time that the players are not confident, the management doesn’t support the players, they are dropped after just one game. Perhaps Rahul Dravid is also brilliant in the sense that he’ll give full opportunity to a player before sitting him out."

Dravid had coached the India men's limited-overs team in July on the Sri Lanka tour when the Indian Test side was on the tour of England with Ravi Shastri. The team won the ODI series 2-1 but lost the T20Is by the same margin after a few important players had to miss out on matches due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.

“It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Mr. Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward,” Dravid was quoted as saying by the BCCI.
