Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been officially appointed as the head coach of Team India on Wednesday (November 3). BCCI announced that Dravid will be taking the charge of the team from the upcoming New Zealand series after the T20 World Cup 2021.

"The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India’s senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction," BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said.

Ex-India batter Ajay Jadeja has a suggestion for BCCI and he requested the cricket body to not tell Dravid about how to run the team and let him do the job with his own vision.

"If there's a role model of discipline and dedication, it's Rahul Dravid. You want a lot of things from a coach but discipline and dedication are probably the two prime things. It will be interesting to see who will make the next T20 captain - Rahul Dravid or [the selectors]. There's no doubt in his individual praise but when someone becomes an Indian coach, if you don't let him work or don't use his vision then it's all redundant, anyone can be a coach in that way," he told Cricbuzz.

"So if you have brought Rahul Dravid, the biggest name, then at least go with his vision. This is my request to the board... If a man like Rahul Dravid has joined then please, please move alongside his vision, understanding, and dedication, don't tell him how to run the team."

Earlier, the BCCI had invited applications for the head coach post on October 26 to pick a successor of the current head coach, Ravi Shastri.

After being named for the head coach post, Dravid thanked Shastri and co for taking Indian cricket to new heights. "It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Mr Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward," Dravid, who coached India's senior men team in July, said.
