Cricket Ireland has reportedly requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the warm-up games in Ireland to help Irish cricket grow in the region ahead of India’s tour of England next year.
India is scheduled to travel to England in July 2022 to complete the five-match Test series and play a white-ball series. Ireland wants the BCCI to schedule warm-up games before India’s England tour to help the board grow the game in the country, and talks between the two boards are ongoing.
It is being said the meeting between BCCI and Cricket Ireland is expected to take place ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 final regarding the warm-up games in Ireland.
According to Sportskeeda, the source stated: “Cricket Ireland has reached out to the BCCI and requested that they plan for India's warm-up games to take place in Ireland. The request has been put in as a means of helping Irish cricket grow, and the talks are on between the boards. The meetings are expected to take place ahead of the T20 World Cup final.”
Noteworthy, the fifth and final Test between India and England, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 scare earlier this year, will be played on July 1-5 in Edgbaston next year before the teams play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Team India is currently leading the Test series with 2-1 against England.
Recently, Ireland failed to make it to the Super 12s of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 whereas India is playing in the global tournament, though, they are yet to open their account in the tournament.
