Former Indian skipper Virender Sehwag feels that being a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been one of the main reasons for the rise of Shardul Thakur in the Indian cricket team and his fortunes have changed under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
Shardul Thakur has become one of the most valuable players for the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game for the last few months.
The 30-year-old has not only contributed with the ball but also played some valuable knocks with the bat that helped the Virat Kohli-led side win the Test series in Australia and then take lead in the series against England.
His heroics in the game even earned him the name “Lord Shardul Thakur”.

The fast bowling all-rounder was also the unsung hero for the Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2021 triumph as he provided his team with crucial breakthroughs almost every time he came to bowl. Shardul Thakur deserves equal credit for CSK’s success this year as was the highest wicket-taker for his side with 21 wickets to his name.
Lauding him for his performances, Virender Sehwag feels that Shardul Thakur’s two wickets in the final against KKR changed the game completely. The former Indian batsman credited the MS Dhoni-led franchise for his success, saying that he became a regular feature in the Indian team after playing for CSK.
"He is CSK's highest wicket-taker this season. He came to bowl the 11th over where he took two wickets and the game changed from there. His fortunes have changed ever since he has joined Chennai Super Kings. He's played most of his cricket for India after playing for CSK," Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag remarked that before joining CSK, Shardul was in and out of the Indian team but playing for the “Yellow Army” helped him to become a regular all-format player for Team India. He added that playing under MS Dhoni changed his fortunes.
"Before joining CSK, he used to be in and out of the team, but having played for Chennai, he entered the Indian Test team, the one-day side, and the T20 unit as well. As I said, his fortunes have changed, not only because he has played for CSK but also because he has picked up wickets and performed well," he said.
His recent heroics even earned him a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup as he was drafted into the main squad from the reserves in place for Akshar Patel.
