As per reports, BCCI may rest most of the senior Indian players for the upcoming T20I series between India and New Zealand at home, which will be played after the T20 World Cup 2021.
It is expected that a young team will play the three T20 matches at home and the squad will comprise mainly of IPL performers. India will play three T20Is matches on 17, 19, and 21 November at Jaipur, Ranchi, and Kolkata.
The T20I series will be followed by two Tests starting 25 November in Kanpur and 3 December in Mumbai.
Top players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others have been in bio-bubble since the start of the World Test Championship in Southampton in June. This was followed by a bubble in England, which was much less strict.
"Most of the Indian players, the senior ones have now been in three back-to-back bubbles for four months. Possibly after T20 World Cup, you would want them to take a break and rejuvenate before the South Africa tour starting December end," source tracking development in the selection committee told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
It's a foregone conclusion that the likes of Kohli, Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami would want to be given a break.
Such a scenario brings the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Venkatesh Iyer into contention for the short series.
