Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener credited ex-India captain MS Dhoni for taking Indian cricket to new heights. He believes a lot of modern-day success of Indian cricket is based around Dhoni.

Dhoni has led Team India to three ICC titles; the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Klusener said the Jharkhand cricketer has been brave enough to sort out things whenever the team was in trouble under his leadership.

"I think a lot of India's modern-day success has been based around MS Dhoni. The way he has taken the team forward after Sachin retired has just been incredible. And the way he has taken on responsibility as well. I was always marveled at how MS put himself out there whenever the Indian team was in trouble and be brave enough to sort things out there," Klusener told CricketCountry in an interview.

The 40-year-old quit international cricket last year and he played his last match for India in 2019 against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final. Dhoni used to be a huge asset for the team because of his experience and contribution with bat and wicket-keeping, apart from inputs for the captain.

India are investing in Rishabh Pant to fill the void left by Dhoni and he has been praised as a promising talent by the cricket fraternity. "He (Dhoni) is gonna leave a big hole but India is blessed to have a guy like Rishabh Pant, who is stepping into his shoes," said Klusener.
