England's Ashes tour of Australia will go ahead as scheduled subject to "several critical conditions being met", the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Friday (October 8).

Notably, England players had expressed concerns over the prospect of hard quarantine due to Australia's international and internal border restrictions.

"Over recent weeks we have made excellent progress in moving forward on the England Men's Ashes Tour,” ECB said in a statement.

"To facilitate further progress and allow a squad to be selected, The ECB Board has met today and given its approval for the tour to go ahead. This decision is subject to several critical conditions being met before we travel.”

"We look forward to the ongoing assistance from Cricket Australia in resolving these matters in the coming days."

The Ashes 2021-22 is due to begin on December 8 at the Gabba. The tour had been under dark clouds with several English players, including skipper Joe Root, expressing frustration at the number of isolation and bubbles the side has endured over the past 1.5 years.

Another major issue was whether family members could join England players in Australia over the Christmas and New Year period as the country’s borders are effectively closed for non-citizens and non-permanent residents.

According to the reports in Australian media, authorities are offering England's players, staff and families the use of a Gold Coast resort in Queensland state for quarantine before the opening Test.

The reports also claim that the Ashes tour pours approximately A$200 million ($146.14 million) into Cricket Australia coffers.

Apart from Brisbane, Adelaide (December 16-20), Melbourne (December 26-30), Sydney (January 5-9), and Perth (January 14-18) are slated to host the Ashes Test matches.
