Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has on Thursday (October 7) said that he is expecting England to come up with the full-strength squad for the upcoming Ashes 2021-22.

The five-match Test series had been under a cloud for weeks after England players expressed huge concerns over Australia’s quarantining rules, though, it is being said that the Ashes will go ahead as planned in December-January with the first Test on December 8 in Brisbane.

Reacting to England players’ concerns over strict COVID-19 protocols in Australia, Lyon said quarantine is a “small price to pay” for having the chance to represent the country and he is really excited to play in the high-profile Test series.

As reported by Sydney Morning Herald, Lyon said: “I’m expecting a full-strength England side to come out. I’m 100 percent getting ready for the Ashes and the first Test at the Gabba. An Ashes series is extremely special, so we’re looking forward to a fantastic summer ahead.”

He continued, “I think that shows the passion between the two nations, and it's the pinnacle as an Australian cricketer to play in the Ashes series. So no doubt there will be some comments flying around and creating a bit of theatre, which I'm all for, so it should be good fun.”

The spinner further explained, “I'm expecting England to come out pretty well full-strength. Ashes series make people's careers, so if people don't come out and someone comes out and has an absolute blinder of an Ashes series, which really sets their careers up. I know if I was in their shoes I'd be putting both hands up for selection and coming on that tour.”

Lyon signed off by saying, “I’ve got no dramas with quarantine. I’m happy to jump in there and get it done. To be honest with you, it’s a pretty small price to pay to go out there and have the opportunity to go out and play cricket for Australia.”
