Wasim Khan has resigned as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday (September 29), four months before the end of his three-year contract.
Following Khan’s abrupt departure, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has called a meeting of the board of directors on Wednesday afternoon to take up the matter with the vacant post of PCB CEO which has to be filled within and not exceeding 90 days.
Khan was appointed as the PCB CEO by former chairman PCB Ehsan Mani in 2019 on three-year tenure. It is being said that Wasim was offered an extension for another three years, but couldn’t materialize after Ramiz Raja became the new chairman of the PCB.
ESPNCricinfo also reported that Wasim wasn't involved in the appointment of Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander as Pakistan's consultants for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman.
On Wednesday, the PCB confirmed Wasim’s resignation as CEO in an official statement on its website. The board stated: “Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed Wasim Khan has tendered his resignation as Chief Executive. As is the process, the BoG will meet later today to consider the matter.”
Noteworthy, it is the third prominent resignation in the Pakistan cricket setup since Raja took over as the new PCB chairman earlier this month. Earlier, Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis also quit as the head coach and bowling coach of the national side.
