Will do everything in power to keep cricket in Pakistan- Wasim Akram says his country one of the safest places

Wasim Akram was highly disappointed after New Zealand pulled out of the Pakistan tour.

Babar Azam and Tom Latham | GettyFormer Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram, who was extremely disappointed with New Zealand pulling out of the Pakistan tour, wants the world to give his country a chance to host cricket matches without any security concerns.

The legendary fast bowler commented on this issue as cricket means a lot to the people of Pakistan and also made it clear that the board and Pakistani people will be doing everything in their capacity to prevent international cricket from going away from the country.

“I think the world underestimates how powerful our security forces are. Cricket is more than a sport to us and we will do everything in our power to prevent cricket being taken from us again. The world needs to give us a chance to prove that,” Akram tweeted.

The Kiwis were scheduled to tour Pakistan for the first time after 2003-04 for a three-match ODI and a five-match T20I series from September 17 but due to a security threat, New Zealand Cricket said that they were advised by their government not to leave their hotel rooms.

Akram termed Pakistan as ‘one of the safest places in the world to play cricket,’ expressed his displeasure after New Zealand calling off the tour via a tweet on Friday.

“Extremely disappointed in NZ choice to abandon the #PAKvNZ tour. Pakistan has proven that our security measures for international games is of the highest order, making Pakistan one of the safest places in the world to play cricket today. I feel we are not hearing the whole story,” the 55-year-old wrote.
