Team India skipper Virat Kohli recently announced stepping down from T20 captaincy after the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman. After the big news, a lot of fans and pundits started giving out their opinions on this decision.
The former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg is one of them as in his latest YouTube video, he talked about why he feels this is a good move by the Delhi-based cricketer.
“Virat Kohli giving up the captaincy I think is the right move. There is so much pressure on being India's captain in all three formats. If he does well he is the player of the month. If things are not going well, he is ridiculed left, right and center,” Hogg said in his YouTube video.
“He has relinquished the pressure. I like the way he is going to captain for one more world cup giving him one opportunity to win the world cup there,” he added.
5 possible replacements for Virat Kohli as India’s T20I captain
With the second-leg of IPL 2021 slated to begin from 19 September, Virat Kohli and Co. were blamed for giving the cash-rich league higher priority than the final Test match of the five-match Test series against England which was scheduled to be played at Old Trafford.
Thus, India was criticized heavily after they pulled out of the fifth Test at Manchester due to COVID-19 scares in their camp, Hogg however felt with Kohli leaving T20 captaincy it sends out a strong message to everyone that the subcontinental giants want to dominate in the longest format.
“He has realized that he has struggled in Test cricket in the last five series. He has not done well in the last five series.
Also, people out there saying India pulling out of the fifth Test means that they are not interested in Test cricket. Well, this move shows that they care about Test cricket and they want to dominate that format moving forward,” the left-arm spinner concluded.
