United States of America (USA) batsman Jaskaran Malhotra created history by becoming the first batter from the USA to hit an ODI century. He achieved the feat during the second ODI against Papua New Guinea at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Oman.
Jaskaran, who hails from Chandigarh and has played cricket for Himachal Pradesh, hit 16 sixes and 4 fours to make 173* in 124 balls helping the USA post 271/9 in 50 overs from a position of 72/4 at one stage.
During his stupendous knock, Jaskaran hit PNG’s Gaudi Toka for six sixes in the last over of the USA’s innings. Jaskaran also became only the second batsman in ODI history to hit six sixes in an over. The first was South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs, who achieved the feat in the 2007 ICC World Cup against the Netherlands’ leg-spinner Dan Van Bunge.
“Jaskaran Malhotra has joined an exclusive club of international cricketers to hit 6️⃣ x 6️⃣s in an over with a stunning assault from the final 6 balls of the innings as he becomes the first American to make an ODI ???? with 173 not out!,” USA Cricket tweeted.
Reacting to his feat, Herschelle Gibbs, the first batsman to achieve this feat tweeted, “Lovely jubblys,” in reply to AB de Villiers’ tweet in which he lauded Jaskaran’s feat with clap emojis.
