The former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns who underwent an emergency heart surgery in Sydney, now has returned to his residence in Canberra. But the Kiwi has a long road to recovery after suffering paralysis in his legs due to a stroke in his spine.
Wishes had poured in for the 51-year-old who still remains in a serious condition after suffering complications following his heart surgery. Former India cricketer and a legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar also tweeted for Cairns’ speedy recovery.
“Concerned to know about Chris Cairns. Hoping & praying. Get well soon mate, the entire cricketing fraternity wishes for your wellbeing,” the Mumbai-based former right-handed batsman wrote on Twitter.

Chris Cairns, the son of former New Zealand all-rounder Lance Cairns, represented the country in 62 Tests, 215 ODIs, and two T20Is from 1989 to 2006. He managed to secure 3,320 runs at an average of 33.53 and got 218 wickets to his name at an average of 29.40 in Test cricket.
In ODIs, Cairns scored 4,950 runs at an average of 29.46 and took 201 wickets with an average of 32.80. He was also named as one of five Wisden Cricketers of the year in 2000.
The former cricketer’s lawyer Aaron Lloyd issued a statement on Cairns' condition.
“During the life-saving emergency heart surgery, Chris underwent in Sydney he suffered a stroke in his spine. This has resulted in paralysis in his legs. As a result, he will be undertaking a significant rehabilitation process at a specialist spinal hospital in Australia,” Lloyd said.
