My favorite captain is MS Dhoni, he is more or less like Ajit- Rekha Wadekar

Ajit Wadekar captained India to their first Test series win on English soil in 1971.

Ajit Wadekar and MS Dhoni | TwitterFormer India skipper Ajit Wadekar’s wife Rekha Wadekar showered MS Dhoni with praises when she was asked about her favorite India captain during a recent interaction on 24th August which marked the 50th anniversary of India's famous triumph on English soil under Wadekar in 1971.

According to Rekha, Dhoni’s calm and composed attitude while leading the Indian team was quite similar to how the left-hand batsman captained during his time. Rekha said Dhoni is more or less like the former India captain.

More than Virat Kohli, my favorite captain is Dhoni. More or less he is like Ajit. Dhoni always took decisions with a cool mind just like Ajit,” Rekha Wadekar was quoted as saying by Mid-day.com on the 50th anniversary of India's 1971 Test series win against England.

Wadekar had led India to a famous 4-wicket win in the third Test at the Oval to create history with a maiden Test series win on English soil.

Whereas under Dhoni, India won three major ICC trophies, the inaugural T20 World Cup (2007), followed by an ODI World Cup (2011), and the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Ajit never gave importance to unnecessary things and Dhoni worked on the same lines as well,” Rekha said as she pointed out similarities in captaincy styles of Ajit Wadekar and MS Dhoni.

While Dhoni’s successor Virat Kohli is quite the opposite as he is known for his aggression and wearing his heart on his sleeve, Rekha Wadekar who is a keen follower of the game feels Kohli should contain his aggression and be careful with his conduct on the pitch to achieve success consistently.

More aggression may affect his game. I think he should be careful. If Virat curtails his aggression, it will definitely help him perform more consistently,” Rekha Wadekar signed off.
