There are reports of Team India coach Ravi Shastri parting ways after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 that will begin on 17 October and will be played in UAE and Oman.
Shastri is credited for the new heights the Virat Kohli-led team has achieved, especially in Test cricket. Despite the achievements, there have been speculations of the former all-rounder leaving his position which he has held since 2017.
Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar believes that the team will not be unsettled amid the rumors. He added that Shastri is unperturbed by the speculations of him parting ways with the national team.
"I can't imagine Ravi worrying about these speculations. Clearly, it's not bothering them (the team), they are one up in the series and had a chance of going two up if the play had happened in Nottingham. So, no, I don't think it bothers Ravi, having known him for a while now," Ajit Agarkar said in a media interaction organized by Sony Sports.
Shastri has guided team India to memorable wins in England, South Africa, and Australia, making him one of the most successful Indian head coaches.
Agarkar talked about multiple applications for the post of head coach of the Indian team even in the past, and refused to comment on his opinion of Shastri continuing.
"His (Ravi Shastri's) contract ends after the T20 World Cup, right? If the team is doing well and you are winning, it's always a difficult decision. Even when Anil (Kumble) was the coach, there were applications asked so it's common when a contract is up for renewal... How does it matter what I think on whether he should continue or not? (chuckles)," Agarkar opined.
He added that it will be hard to dislodge Shastri if the team does well.
"Eventually it's the performances which tell you whether X should continue or not. This is a performance-oriented industry and if the team's doing well it would be hard to dislodge someone," Agarkar added.
