Team India head coach Ravi Shastri will part ways with the national team after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 later this year, reported The Indian Express.

Besides Shastri, the support staff of Bharat Arun (bowling coach), R Sridhar (fielding coach), and Vikram Rathour (batting coach) are also reportedly looking to move on.

According to the report, Shastri has informed some BCCI members about his decision while some of the staff members are already in talks with IPL franchises to take up coaching roles.

With BCCI inviting applications for the position of NCA cricket head, it will be interesting to see if Rahul Dravid, currently holding the same post, takes up the role of India’s head coach after Shastri’s departure.

Notably, Dravid was appointed as NCA head on July 8, 2019 despite him doing well as the chief coach of India ‘A’ and Under-19 teams. He recently travelled to Sri Lanka with the senior Indian team as a head coach.

However, Dravid had clarified during the Lanka tour, saying: “I have enjoyed the experience of working with these guys, it has been great. I have not given any other thoughts to anything else. There are a lot of challenges in doing full-time roles, so I really don’t know.”

Coming to Ravi Shastri, he turned 59 in May and the current age limit set for the head coach is 60 years. Shastri had served the Indian team as a director from 2014 till 2016. He was made the full-time coach in 2017 before the Indian board re-appointed him in 2019.

Under Shastri, Team India have performed reasonably well, winning two Test series in Australia, reaching the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship and the semi-final of 2019 ODI World Cup.

The Indian board is likely to invite applications for the coaching positions after the T20 World Cup.
