England’s planned tour of Bangladesh, which was due to take place in September and October 2021, has been rescheduled to March 2023, ECB confirmed on Tuesday (August 3).

“The England and Wales Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board have mutually decided to reschedule the tour, which includes three One Day Internationals and three T20 internationals,” ECB said in a media release.

“The tour is planned to take place in the first two weeks of March 2023, with three ODIs and three T20Is due to take place at the SBNCS, Dhaka, and the ZACS, in Chattogram,” it added.

After hosting India in five Tests, England were supposed to travel to Bangladesh and the white-ball series was considered as part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2021, slated to be held in UAE and Oman from October 17 to November 14.

With the tour now being postponed, English players might be seen in action in the second half of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, scheduled to take place in UAE from September 19 to October 15.

Earlier, ECB managing director Ashley Giles had said that the England players won’t be released for the remainder of IPL 2021 because of national commitments.

"We have a full schedule. If we go from the end of the fifth Test in September, we are set to leave for Bangladesh on September 19 or 20. We have a full schedule right through including Pakistan and wherever the T20 World Cup is.

"We are going to have to give some of these guys a break at some point. But the intention of giving guys a break for, say, Bangladesh, wouldn't be for them to go and play cricket elsewhere.

"We have to manage our schedule now, so we get our guys arriving in the best shape possible for the T20 World Cup and the Ashes," Giles had said in May.
