Alex Carey | GettyAustralia won the ODI series against West Indies 2-1 after getting thrashed in the T20I series. The Australian team was led by Alex Carey in the absence of injured Aaron Finch. Coach Justin Langer was all praise of the wicket-keeper’s captaincy.

Alex Carey led Australia to a 133-run win in the first ODI, before slumping to a four-wicket defeat in the second encounter. Australia, chasing 153, eased to a win in the all-important decider to clinch the series.

"I thought Alex Carey's captaincy was outstanding,Justin Langer said, according to The Australian.

"One of the hallmarks of Alex Carey, and he talks about it personally and we are talking about it as a team now as one of our values or what we are looking to achieve as a playing group, is calmness. He is so calm and you can see it in his face when he bats,” he added.

The stand-in skipper led from the front with the bat as well. He top-scored with 67 runs in the first ODI and contributed 35 runs in the absence of a number of experienced players like David Warner and Steve Smith.

The Australian coach said that Carey was easy to work with and ticks every box as a captain.

"He is easy to work with as a captain. He'll tick every box, he'll make sure all his due diligence is done, he will know how his teammates are traveling, so he was great to work with. I loved his calmness, I loved his composure, I loved what he does on and off the field, he did a really, really good job, he is very impressive in that role,” he concluded.
