ZIM v BAN 2021: Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah rues lack of partnerships for loss against Zimbabwe

ZIM v BAN 2021: Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah rues lack of partnerships for loss against Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe levelled the three-match T20I series 1-1 with series decider to be played on Sunday (25 July).

Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh for the first time in T20 Cricket | GettyBangladesh are currently in Zimbabwe for a full tour that consists of one-off Test, three-match ODI series and as many T20Is. After winning the one-off Test and ODI series 3-0, Bangladesh suffered their fist loss on the tour in the second T20I as the hosts managed to make it 1-1 at Harare.

While Zimbabwe managed to keep the three-match series alive, they also defeated the tourists for the first time in T20 cricket. After their first loss, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah rued the lack of partnerships that did them in.

I don't think we were complacent. We were focused to do well in this match but could not execute our plans and that is the reason we lost the game. I am not disappointed with the batting approach because when you are chasing 160 you have to take risk upfront,” Mahmudullah told reporters after the match.

Because we lost wickets and we were under pressure. It was important that we had a partnership worth 30 to 50 runs as that would have given us a platform from where we could carry. But unfortunately, we could not have any partnership,” he added.

Bangladesh opener Liton Das was unavailable in the second T20I against Zimbabwe due to an injury, which turned out to be a big blow for the tourists as they had to tweak their batting line-up a bit.

Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah then stressed on his point of lack of partnerships, as he felt the batting unit could not express themselves.

But unfortunately, as a batting unit, we could not express ourselves as we failed to do any partnership. Because when you chase 160 plus runs you need partnerships,” the 35-year-old said.

The series decider between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh will be played on Sunday (25 July) at Harare Sports Club.
