South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was, on Friday (July 23), reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20I of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Ireland in Malahide.

He was found to have breached Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the “use of an audible obscenity during an International Match”.

Bavuma was found using an audible obscenity on being adjudged caught behind by Lorcan Tucker for 13 in the sixth over of South Africa's innings in the first T20I on Monday (July 19) in Malahide.

The on-field umpires Alan Neill and Mark Hawthorne, third umpire Rolland Black and fourth official Paul Reynolds leveled the charge against the Proteas skipper.

However, South had won the first T20I game by 33 runs, but one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Bavuma for his offense. It was Bavuma’s first offense in a 24-month period.

Well, there is no need for a formal hearing as Bavuma admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Kevin Gallagher of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations.

Noteworthy, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

South Africa also won the second T20I by 42 runs on Thursday, July 22 to take a 2-0 lead in the series with the third and final T20I to be played on Saturday, July 24, in Belfast.
