Aakash Chopra says if Rahul Dravid wants to be India coach, Ravi Shastri is the only competition

Rahul Dravid is currently the head coach of India team touring Sri Lanka.

Rahul Dravid with Shikhar Dhawan in Sri Lanka | BCCIRahul Dravid had begun his team India head coach journey with back-to-back ODI wins against Sri Lanka. Several fans and former cricketers have celebrated the move to make Dravid the head coach of the young Indian team touring Sri Lanka.

He has previously coached the 2018 U19 World Cup-winning team and India A teams. Dravid has been credited for the work he has put in with the youngsters who have performed very well for team India in recent times, especially in the Test series win against Australia recently.

Current Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has had a very successful stint with team India but does not have an ICC trophy to boast of. His stint is set to get over post the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

He will be the frontrunner for another stint in the position if he chooses to renew the contract. However, fans have speculated that Rahul Dravid will be given the responsibility if Ravi Shastri fails to win the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra talked about the possibility of Rahul Dravid becoming the next head coach of Team India. However, he said that he does not think Dravid will put his name on the list.

"I don't think Rahul Dravid is going to put his name on the list. There can be just one competition if Rahul says he wants to be India's coach. If he wants, then it will be a strong fight." Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

"But if Dravid doesn't put his name, whoever puts his name on that list, he will not be able to stand in front of Ravi Shastri, that is what I believe but then we shall find out,” he added.

Chopra also said that he feels Ravi Shastri will most likely continue in the position as there are two World Cups coming up in the next two years.

"I don't think there is going to be any change. I feel Ravi Shastri will continue. Just because there is a process, applications will be invited, there will be some recce. I don't see a change in the offing, to be very honest.

There is another T20 World Cup within a year of this T20 World Cup and there is a 50-50 World Cup a year after that. You have reached the World Test Championship final and the team is doing alright, then why to change," he concluded.
