Bangladesh clean-swept Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI series after an emphatic victory over the hosts in the final ODI on Tuesday (21st July) as they chased down the target of 299 with 2 overs spare.
The architect of the victory was captain Tamim Iqbal, as he hit his 14th ODI century and helped his team clinch the series 3-0.
However, the left-hander suffered an injury during the innings and will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series as the player would go for eight weeks of recovery.
Tamim suffered a knee injury during the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka and came back in this ODI series post-recovery.
The opener looked dominant during his innings of 112 runs off just 97 deliveries as he smocked 11 boundaries that included 8 fours and 3 sixes.
"I was not showing but I was going through a lot of pain. I can continue with this injury, but if it aggravates, I can lose about 7-8 months of cricket. I don't think I should take that risk. If I do my rehab properly then I hope to be fine before the T20 WC," Tamim said in the post-match press conference.
"It was challenging but I have been in good rhythm while batting in Tests or ODIs. I am happy to win the series but we can play better as a team. I am sure we still have 12 to 13 games before the next ICC World Cup and those matches are very important as we want to go to the next World Cup, we have to be a complete team." he added.
Bangladesh is set to host Australia, New Zealand, and England ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, and the all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan said that he is pleased to see the team see off the tough phases.
"I think there were times we were tested and we successfully overcame it. But we can improve, and if we keep doing that regularly in the upcoming series, we can achieve the ultimate goal," he said.
The two teams will now be heading into T20I action starting this Thursday (22nd July) in Harare and the T20I series will be played on the same ground.
