Indian captain Virat Kohli always enjoys a battle on the field and never shies away from expressing his emotions and cricket fans are well aware of his electrifying and aggressive nature on the field.
Kohli is known for his ultra-aggressive celebrations, provoking gestures, and combative attitude which brings the best out of him, but sometimes his animated attitude goes overboard with many experts and former cricketers questioning his on-field nature.
Most recently Kohli’s ‘shush finger’ celebration during the WTC 2021 Final against New Zealand caught everyone's attention, though later, quick Neil Wagner revealed it was the response of Indian skipper to the Southampton crowd as they were trying to get under his skin.
Reacting to Kohli’s on-field behavior, former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta believes that the right-hander needs to be more aware of the words he speaks and the action he does on the field, as he is a representative of the country and an inspiration and role model for many youngsters across the world.
On being asked about his ‘shush finger’ celebration, the commentator said he don’t know why he did but admitted that the skipper gets carried away sometimes on the field.
Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel: “I wasn't there so obviously I don’t know. But with Virat, the thing is, personally the way he behaves helps him motivate himself. That’s how he gets himself going.”
He further said of Kohli’s both on and off the field behavior, “If you meet him off the field, he's one of the calmest people you'll come across. He's calm, quiet, soft-spoken, and very well-spoken too. But once he steps on the field, his attitude changes.
I think that's his way of motivating himself. If that works for him, and I have said this [before], it's absolutely fine. At the end of the day, you want him to score runs. How he scores runs, how he wins games for India, we'll leave that to him.”
Dasgupta signed off by saying, “I agree (he needs to choose his words and gestures in the right way), some of the things, I know he gets carried away. As you said, there are kids who are watching him, he’s a role model for millions of kids and I agree with that.”
