The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board, on July 7, has appointed a five-member panel to inquire into the misconduct matter of three Sri Lankan players- Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella during the recent tour of England.
SLC had suspended Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, and Danushka Gunathilaka for breaching the bio-bubble in the UK. This was done after photos and videos of the trio emerged on social media showing them out in a public space in Durham.
And the trio accepted that they breached the team’s bio-secure environment and they were flown home immediately from England.
"The players have been suspended pending a full inquiry, but have confessed to having gone out," ESPNCricinfo quoted SLC Vice President Mohan de Silva as saying.
The trio is also not part of the training squad for the upcoming white-ball series against India, though Kusal Mendis was named the vice-captain of the team for the England tour.
"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of a 5-member panel to inquire into the alleged misconduct of three players, namely Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella while touring England with the national team," said SLC in a statement.
The panel includes Justice Nimal Dissanayaka (Retd Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka), Panduka Keerthinanda, Attorney-at-Law, Asela Rekawa, Attorney-at-Law, Uchitha Wickremasinghe, Attorney-at-Law, and Major General (Retd) M.R.W. De Zoysa.
